“One of the best museums I've been to. If you visit Launceston or Northern Tasmania, I highly suggest you visit the Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Museum. I loved seeing all the old machinery and items. The kids enjoyed using the old phones. Reading about the rock fall and seeing displays related to it was fantastic. To read more about how they were rescued, and to bits and pieces used was amazing, but also gave goosebumps for how lucky they were. Reading statements from people involved in rhe rescue was good, and reading Rex Johnson's pulled at my heart. Having a young boy asking you to bring his dad home, and in the moment not knowing if you could would have been difficult.”

“A must visit! Brilliant museum. The staff were lovely. There were so many things for the children to interact with plus they received a sticker and precious stones at the end of our visit. They were very excited. The museum is very informative and well curated. Couldn’t recommend it more.”

Overview
The Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre holds more than 10,000 objects across hands-on displays where children pull levers, push buttons, crawl through tunnels, and use working vintage phones. The centrepiece is the 2006 mine rescue story — a genuine piece of Tasmanian history with artefacts and documentation on display. Pram access throughout. A playground sits directly across the road. Allow 90 minutes minimum.
