Swimming Pools in Spring Hill

Spring Hill has two heated indoor pools a short distance apart, and they suit quite different family outings. Centenary Aquatic Centre & Health Club on Gregory Terrace is the bigger, busier site: indoor and outdoor pools, diving boards, a wading pool that handles toddlers and non-swimmers, speed-designated lap lanes, a cafe, free parking and full wheelchair access. Reviewers praise the facilities and the staff but say weekends draw crowds across every pool, so mid-week or early morning gives the most room. Rackley Swimming runs its small group and baby classes here rather than at the Baths.

Spring Hill Baths is the opposite in scale and mood. Brisbane City Council describes it as the city's first in-ground pool, built in 1886 and the oldest surviving swimming bath in the southern hemisphere, and it went on the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992. The 25 metre pool is kept warm all year, and reviewers single out the water temperature, the quiet and the poolside change rooms with hot showers. Families Magazine rates it unmatched for character among Brisbane pools. Swim lessons here are private, one-on-one only, and non-swimmers can pay spectator entry just to see the architecture.

The practical trade-offs matter. The Baths has no car park and, because of its heritage status, no wheelchair access or disabled facilities, though it is a short walk from Roma Street Station and on the free Spring Hill bus loop. Council rules require an adult to supervise children aged 10 and under. Saturday around 11am is its busiest time, Sunday its quietest.

One caveat on Centenary: council material notes the site transferred to the Games infrastructure authority in September 2026 as a new National Aquatic Centre is built next door, so confirm what is open before you go.
